Cryogenic Lipolysis

What is Cryogenic Lipolysis?

Cryolipolysis, is a method of non surgically reducing subcutaneous body fat without surgery. The cool new technology is now newly available in the UK for contouring and sculpting the body without surgery. Currently there are only a handful of clinics in the UK offering cryogenic lipolysis. This is a very new technology with the ability to remove the fat deposits that other treatments such as laser lipo or ultrasonic cavitation leave behind.

Cryogenic Lipolysis is triggered when the fat is exposed to extreme cold using a cooling device. Controlled cooling is used for non-invasive reshaping of body contours. The cooling is set so that it causes cell death of only the subcutaneous fat tissue without damaging the skin, nerves or other tissues.

How Cryolipolysis works

Popsicle panniculitis or cold panniculitis is a condition that shows that exposure to low temperatures can selectively damage subcutaneous fat while leaving skin and other tissues unharmed. Based on this idea, fat cells are more easily damaged by cooling than skin cells, cryogenic lipolysis was developed and it is the cool new way to reduce fat, sculpting your body into the shape you want.

Drs. R. Rox Anderson and Dieter Manstein originated and developed the concept of cryo technology for fat reduction at The Wellman Center at Massachusetts General Hospital. While the process is not fully understood, it appears that fatty tissue that is cooled below body temperature but kept just above freezing undergoes a process of localized cell death and local inflammation known as cold panniculitis, that over the course of several months results in a reduction of localised fatty tissue.

Does Cryo-lipo have any side effects?

Patients may experience local redness, bruising and numbness of the skin post treatment. Numbness will subside within a few hours, as will redness but bruising and numbness may persist in a small handful of clients for a few days. According to the clinical studies no serious long-lasting side effects were encountered during follow-up time of 6 months post treatment. There was no reported evidence of scarring, ulcerations, or changes in blood lipids or liver functions.

Non surgical lipolysis an overview.

Lipolysis is a procedure that attempt to reduce fat cells or reduce the amount of fat in the fat cells by nonsurgical means. A number of methods are in use today, including the use of laser ( also called iLipo or laser lipo), ultrasound cavitation, and radio Frequency or RF current. At the Evolutions Clinic in Winchester we offer three out of the four non surgical lipo treatments based on our own research and experience with ALL of the non surgical fat reduction methods available. We based our treatment choice on effectiveness based on extensive research and experience with non surgical lipo procedures. We offer Cryo lipo as the cool solution for sculpting localised fat pockets such as on the belly, love handles or backs of the upper arm. For larger more general areas ultrasound cavitation will achieve the best results. Radio frequency will be used more as a post sculpting refinement to even and smooth the area and tighten and tone the skin. Celulite will not always respond well to efforts to remove it by any of these methods and we would recommend a series of endomology treatments first to break down and soften the fibrous nature of the tissue.
